Flag Ceremony Duty Sheet
At a den meeting before the pack meeting.
Decide which scout will carry in the U.S. flag and which scout will carry in the pack
flag at the beginning of the pack meeting and which scout will carry each flag out at
the end of the meeting.
Go over the rules of flag handling with the flag carriers.
1. Going in, pack flag gets set up first, U.S. flag second. Coming out, U.S. flag is
removed first, pack flag second.
2. Pack flag is displayed on your right as you're approaching the front of the hall.
3. Flag shouldn't touch the ground.
4. Flag should be carried vertically, not flat or horizontally.
Before the pack meeting:
Den should arrive at 6:40 p.m. to help with pack meeting setup.
If the flags and flag stands aren't already in the hall, get the shed key from the
cubmaster or assistant cubmaster and bring them up to the hall.
With den leader and other den adults' help, have the flags unpacked and put
together at the back of the hall by 6:55 p.m.
Have flag carriers ready to bring the flags up at the cubmaster's signal at 7 p.m. Den
leader should shadow the boys to help if they have trouble keeping the flags upright
or putting the flags in the stands. With Wolves, and especially Tigers, it's a good idea
to send an adult with each boy. Webelos may not need any adults shadowing them.
After flags are placed in the stands, carriers and leaders back up a few steps and
say the pledge of allegiance with the pack.
At the end of the pack meeting, the flag carriers come up to the front at the
cubmaster's signal, and take the flag to the back of the hall.
Adults from the den return the flags to their storage bags and put the flags in the
shed.
Den members and parents assist with hall cleanup.
